CUOMO TO WASHINGTON: RESOLVE NEW YORK’S BUDGET DEFICIT

Cuomo to Washington: Resolve New York’s budget deficit (buffalonews.com)

ALBANY – Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Tuesday unveiled a state budget plan that calls for big spending on education, health care, social services and big tax breaks for certain sectors especially hard hit by the Covid-19 pandemic and economic closure orders.

But, there’s a catch: The ideas will become reality only if the incoming Biden administration and Congress provide the state with a direct aid package totaling $15 billion. If not, big cuts and tax hikes and borrowing are coming, Cuomo warned as released his 2021-22 state budget plan.

Such a level is higher than federal officials have been talking about going to New York in one pot of stimulus money from Washington that Biden and federal lawmakers say will total about $350 billion for all 50 states and local governments across the country.

FILM & TV NO LONGER EXEMPT FROM UK TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS, MEANING ARRIVALS MUST NOW SELF-ISOLATE FOR 10 DAYS

Film & TV No Longer Exempt From UK Travel Restrictions, Meaning Arrivals Must Now Self-Isolate For 10 Days (deadline.com)

Film and TV production has been taken off the UK government’s coronavirus travel exemption list, meaning those arriving in Britain to participate in shoots of all shapes and sizes will need to self-isolate for 10 days.

The government updated its rules on Monday at 4AM local time and changes impact two categories of jobs: television production, and high-end television production and film. This covers pretty much everything apart from those involved in essential work for the BBC.

“If you are not exempt, and you arrive in the UK, you will need to self-isolate for 10 days,” the government said on a web page explaining the rules. “When you arrive in England, you must travel directly to the place you are staying and not leave.”

FRENCH INDUSTRY LOOKING TO SEIZE INTERNATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES, RENDEZ-VOUS PANELISTS SAY

French Industry Looking to Seize International Opportunities, Rendez-vous Panelists Say (variety.com)

Changes in local financing coupled with new opportunities in global distribution have pushed the French industry towards a more international outlook, argued panelists at a Tuesday round table presented as part of UniFrance’s Rendez-vous With French Cinema.

“[For certain French producers] ‘international’ used to mean who would take care of their talent when they travelled,” said film exporter Nicolas Brigaud-Robert. “[Only] today, with the way that we finance films having changed, that concern is much more widespread.”

Throughout the export focused talk – which brought together sales agents Brigaud-Robert of Playtime, and Emilie Georges of Memento, producer Bénédicte Couvreur of Lilies Films, and CNC exec Mathieu Fournet – the panelists detailed the ways French actors could seize international opportunities.
